Lantra Level 4 Award in Thorough Examination of Arboricultural Lifting Equipment

Under the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER), all equipment that is used to lift or lower a load must be thoroughly examined by a qualified, competent person. ROLO Manager Course

The ROLO Manager courses have been developed by the British Association of Landscape Industries and offer an alternative route in achieving the Land-based industry skills scheme (LISS) and/or the Construction skills certification scheme (CSCS).

This courses have been approved fully by the CSCS and Build UK as being equivalent to the CITB SMSTS courses and will provide the only route for practicing Supervisors and Managers in the land-based industry to achieve their LISS/CSCS cards.

Please note that as of 1st April 2022 the correct level ROLO course will be a requirement for Manager level cards. Dates indicated are the start date. Please contact the office for full details.

Tree Pruning Refresher (TG1 Update 2020)

We have updated the way that our aerial refresher is delivered so it reflects the changes to best climbing practice as laid out in the new Technical Guide 1: Tree Climbing & Aerial Rescue.
This refresher course gives you updated pruning skills and an in-depth knowledge that will give you a greater understanding of any new pruning methods and when these should be applied, this is taught with a mixture of theory and practical training.

Level 3 Award in Aerial Tree Pruning.

Our course will provide you with the knowledge, skills, and understanding to carry out aerial pruning of a tree through a three day course followed by a one day assessment. It covers the pruning of a tree from either a rope and harness or from a MEWP. Upon successfully completing the assessment element of this course, you will receive a nationally recognised qualification that is registered with Ofqual.
Please note that there are prerequisites to this course that are listed below.

ROLO Supervisor (British Association of Landscape Industries Register of Land-based Operatives)

British Association of Landscape Industries ROLO Supervisor Course

The course consists of a blended learning approach set out over two and a half days (half a day online and 2 days face to face).  The course is equivalent to the CITB SSSTS and fully endorsed by both Build UK and the CITB and designed specifically for supervisors working in Landscaping, Arboriculture, Amenity Maintenance and Ecology based industry sectors.

Blended learning 1/2 day online self study, 2 days face to face in the allocated training room. Please note the dates indicate the first day of the course, please contact the office to confirm full details.

Secondary Roost Surveys for Arborists – including endoscope use (Lantra Accredited)

This follow-on course teaches participants how to undertake a secondary roost survey including use of an endoscope. You will explore in more depth the practical skills needed in the field, the methods that can be used to rule out the potential of features as suitable bat roosts, learn the appropriate use of endoscopes and be given guidance on what can and cannot be done without a bat licence. Now also accredited by Lantra.
Please note that this course is hosted by VMT but must be booked via the Bat Conservation Trust.

Bats and Arboriculture – Scoping surveys for arborists Lantra Accredited

“Very good introduction to bats in relation to ecology, the law and tree use.” Course participant, 2017

This Lantra-accredited course, developed by the Bat Conservation Trust and supported by the Arboricultural Association, will enable participants to carry out tree works with consideration for the potential effects on bats and their habitats.
This course is in line with the British Standard 8596 – Surveying for bats in trees and woodland.
Please note that this course is hosted by VMT but booking and payment must be made via the Bat Conservation Trust, the link will be provided when the booking is confirmed.
